Where We Stayed: An Adventurous Base at Kruger Park Lodge

Our home away from home in Kruger was the Kruger Park Lodge, a convenient base for our safari adventures. While the grounds boasted natural beauty, the lodges themselves were rather basic, and the food left much to be desired. If staying here, we'd recommend stocking up on groceries and utilizing the fully stocked kitchens. Plus, having your own car is essential as public transport is virtually non-existent in Kruger.

What We Did: Safari Adventures and Beyond

Our primary focus in Kruger was, of course, the safari experience, but we managed to squeeze in a few extra thrills during our stay.

- Elephant Whisperer's Encounter: An unforgettable experience in the company of these majestic creatures. Opting for the sunset ride, we were treated to a magical journey atop elephants' backs as the sun dipped below the horizon. Fun fact: Did you know African elephants' ears are shaped like the continent of Africa?

- Tree Top Trail: A challenging yet exhilarating adventure for those seeking a workout with a view.

- Quad Bike Adventure: Equal parts scary and thrilling, navigating the mountain trails of Kruger on quad bikes provided an adrenaline rush like no other.

- Kruger National Park – The Big 5: The highlight of our trip was undoubtedly the safari drives in Kruger National Park. Rising before dawn for the early morning drives, we were rewarded with sightings of the iconic Big 5 and a myriad of other wildlife. From elephants to cheetahs, giraffes to zebras, every moment was a testament to the awe-inspiring beauty of nature.

- Night Time Game Drive: Despite a few mishaps with our inexperienced guide, including a humorous encounter with a rhino, our night-time game drive added an extra layer of excitement to our safari experience. And no, we didn't miss the chance to witness a lion hunt an impala!

Where We Savored: Culinary Adventures in Kruger

Unfortunately, the culinary offerings at the lodge left much to be desired. However, our resourcefulness led us to a nearby KFC for some much-needed indulgence. Additionally, the lodges' fully stocked kitchens provided an opportunity for self-catering, with supermarkets conveniently located nearby.

What We Didn't Miss: Making the Most of Every Moment

In our whirlwind adventure in Kruger, we left no stone unturned and no experience unexplored. From thrilling safaris to heart-pounding encounters with wildlife, we savored every moment of our time in this extraordinary destination. As the sun set on our unforgettable journey, we departed with hearts full of memories and a longing to return for more adventures in the wild.
